The **D4 Visa** (Visto de Estudo, Investigação ou Formação Profissional) is a Portuguese long-stay visa for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who wish to reside in Portugal for the purpose of studying at a recognised higher education institution, conducting scientific research, undertaking a professional training programme, or participating in an exchange programme. It covers undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral students, as well as researchers affiliated with Portuguese research institutions and teaching volunteers.

Documentos Necessários

  • - Valid passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond intended stay) - Completed and signed visa application form - Two recent passport-size photographs - Criminal record certificate from your country of origin (apostilled or legalized) - Enrolment confirmation or acceptance letter from the Portuguese institution (if research: hosting agreement) - Proof of accommodation in Portugal (rental contract, student residence confirmation, etc.) - Proof of sufficient financial means — bank statements or scholarship certificate demonstrating at least the equivalent of the Portuguese minimum wage per month (€920/month in 2026, per Decreto-Lei n.º 139/2025, de 29 de dezembro) - Scholarship documentation (if applicable) - Portuguese NIF - Health insurance valid in Portugal for the duration of the visa - Proof of payment of the visa application fee **For researchers additionally:** - Employment or research contract with the host institution - CV and academic credentials
