The **D2 Visa** (Visto para Atividade de Investimento ou Empreendedorismo) is a Portuguese long-stay visa for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who wish to reside in Portugal as self-employed workers, entrepreneurs, or small business owners. It is the standard pathway for freelancers, independent contractors, founders of startups, and investors who will manage their own business on Portuguese soil. Once granted, the D2 visa enables the holder to enter Portugal and subsequently apply for a Residence Permit (Autorização de Residência) valid for up to two years, renewable thereafter.

Documentos Necessários

  • - Valid passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond intended stay) - Completed and signed visa application form - Two recent passport-size photographs - Criminal record certificate from your country of origin or country of residence (apostilled or legalized) - Proof of accommodation in Portugal (rental contract, property deed, or letter of invitation) - Proof of sufficient financial means — bank statements showing a minimum monthly income equivalent to the Portuguese minimum wage (currently €920/month in 2026, per Decreto-Lei n.º 139/2025, de 29 de dezembro), multiplied by 12 for the year - Portuguese NIF (tax number) - Business plan or proof of professional activity (client contracts, invoices, portfolio, professional qualifications) - Proof of registration of professional activity with Finanças (if already registered) - Health insurance valid in Portugal (mandatory for the visa; replaced by SNS access once resident) - Travel health insurance covering the visa validity period - Proof of payment of the visa application fee **Note:** All documents not in Portuguese must be accompanied by a certified translation.
